About Harmonised EU Standards
Harmonised standards help ensure toys sold in the single market are safe for children to play with and there is a level playing field for business across the EU. They do so by ensuring compatibility and interoperability of components, products and services. The formal definition of a standard is a “document, established by consensus and approved by a recognized body, that provides, for common and repeated use, rules, guidelines or characteristics for activities or their results, aimed at the achievement of the optimum degree of order in a given context”. Standardisation benefits businesses and consumers by reducing costs, enhancing performance and improving safety.
